Version 2.1 of the IM Index Mind Map will be compatible with a new product I'll be launching soon after the V2.1 launch. It's a DAO Installer Generator.

What 's a DAO Installer Generator? We'll, as the name suggests, it's a tool for creating DAO Installers!

What's a DAO Installer?

It's a "Download And Organize" Installer. Finally, when you download content, you can have it automatically organized into the right folders for you!

It's not magic - there's no "AI" behind it. (I used to work in the AI field, and I know that there's no AI softare that could come close to doing this job properly.) The organizational work has to be done by the person creating the DAO Installer - but it's done ONCE - and everybody who then uses the DAO Installer benefits.

This may not be making much sense - so go to my blog and watch the videos on there!

The other important point is this:

ONLY IM Index Owners will be able to create DAO Installers, and only IM Index Owners will be able to benefit from them.

Can you see some opportunities for some affiliate income here?

I'll blog more about this - but there's some massive opportunities here.

Share your thoughts on the blog.

Alex,

BRAVO!!!Just downloaded the eXtreme Resources Pack [all 13 of them]. They installed flawlessly and I  must say for the first time use of a new feature it is quite impressive. Again, congratulations on a job well done.

I especially like being able to see and print the install report so I could see at a glance in hard copy what and where things had been stored. Again, I am forced to use the word "impressive".

A quick question if I may:

While I understand the DOA installer feature is future oriented [I think you are onto a great feature set] I have a load of already downloaded material on my hard drive. Rather than individual place them in my IM-MindMap, I was thinking it would be great if I could create DOA installers for the material and then install them that way I could have the extra utility of the download reports for all the stuff I already have accumulated.

Not understanding the underlying DOA code, I wasn't sure if this is possible.

Thanks again, Alex.....and one more time....IMPRESSIVE work.

Hello Walt

Glad you like the DAO Installers.

There is nothing super-intelligent about the DAO Installers, though: in order to create a DAO Installer, you have to go through the process of figuring out where each individual file goes, putting it into the right folder (within the installer structure) and then creating the record. Then you actually create the installer package itself.

The 'clever' bit is that it allows a lot of people to benefit from the work that ONE person does to set it all up.

So, when it comes to organizing everything on your hard drive - it's as much work (probably more) to create an installer as it is to individually move each file into the IM Index Mind Map folder and create a record.

However, in the download report template, I include guidance on how you can create your own "records" of content that you already have in you IM Index folder structure: basically, that entails filling in the columns in the spreadsheet.

Also, before anyone asks - right now, no-one can create a DAO Installer except me. It involves configuring the installer scripting language and going through a somewhat involved process. My plan is to create a tool that makes this a much simpler task - and that will be the first step in making this technology more widely available.

Regards

Thanks, Alex.

Found the instructions for creating a download report manually.

Appreciate the timely feedback.

I just finished downloading the Pro version as well as the Exteme Package that came along with it.  I am having problems installing the 13 DOA installers.  I was able to download them ok into the IN FOLDER, but when I try to install each DOA, My computer ends up freezing on me.

I've run utilities to clean up my computer and then re-install the download DOA's, but to no avail.  Can you help me figure out why the installers are freezing on me?  I was able with great effort to install the first 2 of them, but can't install the others.

Help please.

Hi, In response to the above thread of mine, I found the solution, so I want to pass this onto anyone else who is experiencing a negative or slow DAO install.

I restated the install this morning and it looked like my computer was freezing again, but what I did was to to my task mamager [right click the task bar to get it].  I noticed that my CPU useage was going up from 15% to about 30%, so I realized that the computer was not frozen but activating the downloads.

So what I dd was decide to let the install take as much time as possible.  And it dd - it takes about 5 minutes for each install of the separate DAO's, but each one DID install properly.  I guess it takes a little longer for a DAO to install then a normal download manager as it takes a bit more time to install the files into the proper folders.

So all the DAO downloads are installed.  The soluton was PATIENCE and waiting a little longer for the process to complete.

So if you are having the same problem as I was, give it some time and it should install properly.  It took about an hour to install everything onto my computer.

Alex,

Cool tool!

Yes, I can see an IM income stream here but there may be more opportunities than that. If the DAO functionality is generalized to allow building out other taxonomies then this facility could allow for a highly managed (secure?) "push/pull" of organized content for businesses and NGOs. The MindMap paradigm/platform is broadly used i.e. understood. Another use (sales pitch) could be Knowledge Mining could - yes/no.

When I first created the IM Index Mind Map (as it was then) in 2006, it was obvious to me that the same paradigm could be applied to other domains.

I had vague ideas of "doing it" for IM, and then moving on to other domains....

I may still do that, but there is currently more than enough to do in IM.

This is true both for the DAO tehnology and for the Map and folders themselves.

I recently installed the new version of DAO Installer. It has definitely an advanced and flexible features. As of now, I have no problem of using it.
