Hi Alex,

I've outgrown the space the IM-Index system was set up in and am about to attempt to move it to the new 2 TB hard drive I've just purchased.

1)    Am I correct in my understanding, that I must re-install the mind-map, in the new drive, then just move the appropriate (and filled) folders over to replace the empty ones, that will be there (on the 2TB drive), or will only the map be there, without the folders?

I'd really like the map to open up to the correct folders, when I use it, and I've spent several months getting my 4 + years sorted out, into the appropriate folders, (if I didn't just throw it out for being too old and irrelevant, that is).

1B or 2)  OR Should I deploy an entire new (copy of a) system, then just replace the folders that have content in them - the ones I have filled - for the empty new ones?

3)   And then, would I run the program, that examines what is in each folder, and makes the spreadsheet for me again, so it knows where everything is?

4)   Then I believe I'd need to combine those, to get one large sheet, that knows where everything is. Is that correct?

Thanks very much Alex,  Cool   this system is already helping me organize, my overflowing brain, and my work day.

5)   I, too, have the Laser Focus Shield, but was entirely too overwhelmed to figure out how to use it. Any key points, or pieces of advice, that you can give me that may help me put it to use now?

Thanks again!!

P.S. I own the PRO system and had been toying with the beta, too.

Hello Julie

Well done for getting all your content organized!

The basic process is simple - just move your IM-Index folder and all its content to your new drive: best to put it at the root of the drive.

That's it.

The mind-map inside the moved folder will automatically point to the correct folders - there's nothing new to install.

However, if you have any download reports within the Download Records folder (they will be in the Download Reports folder and in the specific folders for suppliers within the Supplier Index folder), then you may have links in those download reports that point to the older folders. (The older DAO technology did not create such links.)

If you don't have too many of those, you can simply open up each one and do a global find/replace to change the initial path. e.g.

Find:  C:\IM-Index
Replace: E:\IM-Index

If you have a lot of download reports, only do the find/replace when you open one up to use it. It's not worth spending the time on getting that consistent across the board.

About the Laser Focus Shield - my best advice is to read the PDF that comes with it. If you find the section on Measurement is too complex, you can ignore that.

Use the Mind Map that comes with the product.
1. Decide which "stage" you are at in your business (there's a simple 3-stage model - a very simplified version of the 7-stage model I use in the Internet Professionals Master Agenda
2. Work out what type of product/service you are being offered and choose the section of the mind map based on that
3. Choose the subsection of the map, based on your Stage
4. Follow the guidance under there

(Actually, all that is ALSO explained inside the map itself).

I hope that helps.

Thanks Alex!

As you said this stuff is inside the info that came with the products.

It's just that after you've had it a while and used parts of it, and read it all, you remember that you saw something on ... whatever, but you can't, for the life of you, remember where!

That's where I was. I just needed help knowing where to look for the information that I knew was there.

Again, thank you very much.

Here goes!!
