Alex:

I'm considering purchasing MindJet as I can see the power there in helping me to systematize processes.  I don't however, see much info on the MindJet site that provides insight into why I might wan the Pro version vs. the Lite version.  What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

I'm thinking of upgrading to Pro, but the only reason I can think of is:

"ohh! Shiny!!"

I got Lite because it was $99. I see now that I can upgrade to Pro for $129, so:

"Ohh! Shiny!!"

I have no opinions on this, folks.

I use Pro and I'm not familiar with the restrictions of Lite.

You may find its to do with integrating with Microsoft Project or Outlook or other clever stuff like that.

I don't any of those facilities.

Alex:

If I were to purchase MindJet and create my own mind maps for various things, what I would probably do is simply create a shortcut to the new map in a folder that I can "hang" onto the limb of any of the IM-Index topics.  That way, if I want to expand the topic "branch" into my own set of sub-branches (more detailed mind maps), I could just click open the shortcut in the folder and open up that supplementary mind map.

Two questions:

1)  Does that sound reasonable?
2)  Does every topic in the IM-Index have a (logically named) folder where I could "hang" my shortcut to an additional mind map?

NOTE:  though I'm talking about hanging supplementary mind maps off of the Index, this could just as easily be Excel spreadsheets, Visio diagrams -- anything that might provide additional detail related to a particular branch.

Thanks!

Scott - that is not only reasonable, but pretty much what the Map was designed for people to do!

Although I would expect people to add new folders to many of the folders I provide, your idea of having your own Maps at some of the topics is a nice refinement.

For example, suppose you wanted to really go to town on SEO and created a complex folder structure relating to all the sub-topics within SEO. As a Mind Manager owner you could create a Map as a convenient index onto that folder structure, and put a shortcut to that Map in the SEO folder of the IM Index - as you said!

Very neat idea. Thanks for sharing

(But of course, there is only merit in doing that if have enough SEO material to warrant categorising it in that level of detail. I originally had a more complex IM topic structure that I developed in a much bigger map for another purpose: but when I started applying the idea to storing downloads, it became clear that a simplified structure would be more appropriate. These things are always a matter of judgement and compromise.)
